Description: Small aquatic plant that develops a filiform, crawling and very ramificated rhizome. Spaced internodes  and nodes with 2 (- 4) fronds erect and sessile glabres  of 3-15 cm in length, with filiform limb and circinate prefoliation. Globular and pubescent sorecarps of brown  colour (3-4 mm) that are arranged in the base of the leaves.

Distribution: The west of Europe. In the Iberian Peninsula the area of extension of presence is formed basically by a triangle, whose inferior angle is located to the south of Lisbon from where it divides to an axis for Burgos and another one there for Lugo (Terra Cha). Inside of the area known localities in the provinces of Ourense , Zamora and Lugo have being lost.

Habitat: It is developed in areas with temporary swamp,  either are hygrophilous pastures, brief pools rather wild areas submissive low water as of lagoons or tails of dams. Their more frequent companions are species of Littorelletea like Ranunculus ololeucus, R. flammula, R. peltatus,  Lythrum portula, Eleocharis multicaulis, Juncus  bulbosus, Scirpus fluitans, Luronium natans, Baldellia  ranunculoides, B. alpestris, Potamogeton polygonifolius and Hydrocotile vulgare.
