Latin name: Echinaster sepositus Retzius Family:  Echinasteridae
English name: Thorny red starfish
Description: Star of up to 25 cm of diameter, with a small disc, long arms and of cylindrical section, which it became slim towards the end. The spines are small, arranged without apparent order in the back, but they form rows in the ventral part of the arms; they are sunk in the skin and give an reticular aspect which measure 1.5 mm of length. It presents one internal spine and two external ones in the ambulacral plates, arranged as transverse form. Scarlet, red intense colour.
Distribution: From the Atlantic French coast to the Mediterranean sea.
Habitat: In rocks, sand, up to 200 m of depth.
