A Comparison between Presumed Paranormal Psychophonic, Telephonic and Direct Voices
Paolo Presi

The single acoustic elements of a voice, whose temporal sequence consists of a pronounced word, are called "phonemes". Each phoneme is thoroughly separable from the other phonemes composing the word, and presents its own peculiarities that are instrumentally analysable. Since 2000, and more recently at "Il Laboratorio" in Bologna, a preliminary comparative research of EVP voices (in Italy known as "Psychophonic Voices"), Telephonic Voices and Direct Radio Voices have been made in order to detect common features and anomalies with highly significant paranormal features.

In some cases the supposed paranormal voice has been compared to the speaker’s normal voice when alive. For such analyses new generation professional hardware and software (developed for expert forensic analysis) have been used.

By investigating the electroacoustical structure of the voices some typical features have been discovered, for instance the frequent presence of formants structured by a concentration of existing background noise without vibration of the vocal cords.

In the conference some significant examples of the analyses performed will be expounded in detail, and the differences and/or similarities between the three types of ITC voices – microphone recordings or EVP, telephonic voices and Direct Radio Voices will be explored.
